In Europe and Japan, dry papermaking is called air process paper. In the United States, it is called air flow molding dry process paper, which is what we usually call dust-free paper (strictly speaking, it refers to dry process paper produced with 100% fluff pulp). Due to different raw materials, it can also be called dry paper cloth or non-woven cloth. It is different from the traditional papermaking process: first, in the manufacturing process, air is used instead of water as the medium for dispersing and transporting fibers. In the molding process, air is pumped instead of dehydration, so that the fiber forms a paper net on the molding network; Second, the bonding between fibers is not through hydrogen bond, but through heating and melting the polymer adhesive or hot-melt fiber itself. Therefore, dry papermaking will not pollute water sources, which is also an important reason for the rapid development of dry papermaking in recent decades. In addition to the characteristics of traditional wet papermaking, dry formed paper is characterized by strong adaptability to raw materials and easier to realize the versatility of paper. Various fibers and raw materials, such as fluff pulp, chemical staple fiber (such as polyethylene and polyester), super absorbent resin fiber (SAP), various functional chemicals and artificial or chemical fabrics, can be used to manufacture ultra soft, ultra hard, ultra thick, overweight, ultra-high and low temperature, ultra hygroscopic, ultra breathable, non directional, dust-free and static free paper and paperboard. In the 1930s, dimtrier and bonderenk first invented and patented the dry forming technology using man-made fiber and air. In the early 1950s, Clark also developed the so-called fiber dry papermaking. After continuous improvement, various products came out one after another, laying a solid position of the dry paper of Scott Paper in the world wiping paper market. In the mid-1960s, Karl Kroyer first designed a dry forming technology with wood pulp as raw material, which was developed by Moller & amp; amp; Jochunsen (M & amp; J), now Niro seption fibretech, obtained a U.S. patent in 1979. Its forming technology is the horizontal screen forming method of multi rotation headbox in the center of longitudinal axis, that is, Kroyer system. It has become the most advanced and popular dry forming paper machine in the world. More than a dozen have been installed all over the world. In the early 1960s, Honshu paper company of Japan began to study dry forming technology. After nearly 20 years of efforts and improvements, the company has developed a set of unique dry forming long mesh and round mesh paper machines with wood pulp and synthetic fiber as raw materials, that is, the so-called Honshu process, which has established a position in the field of special paper in the world. In 1987, Dan Web International A / s company of Denmark developed a papermaking method with horizontal circular mesh forming technology as the core, namely Dan webair forming system, which has been patented in the United States. At present, four factories in Denmark, Japan and the United States use this method.

UPM is the largest dry process paper manufacturer in the world. In February 1985, the company cooperated with Dan web to build the world's first modern dry forming paper production line in Kotka paper mill, Finland, with an output of 2500 ~ 3000 tons / year. Subsequently, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, three production lines were built in Germany and the United States, with an output of 5000 tons / year, 10000 tons / year and 25000 tons / year respectively. In 1991, Rauma repola of Finland cooperated with Dan web of Denmark to build the world's first dry papermaking production line with fluff pulp and chemical staple fiber as raw materials, with a production capacity of 7000 tons / year. The first dry papermaking machine in Canada was put into use in merfin sanitary products Co., Ltd., It was established in British Columbia, Canada in September 1989. The production line takes fluff pulp as raw material and adopts Danish M & amp; amp; J company produces base paper with an annual output of 9000 tons. In October 1989, Taiwan Xingli paper company from Denmark M & amp; amp; J company uses fluff pulp as raw material to produce dry formed paper for medical and health products, and named it dust-free paper for the first time. There is only one dry paper production line in Chinese mainland, which is installed in Ningxia Wuzhong Ritter Paper Co., Ltd. The production line is Danish M & amp; amp; J company imported from Sweden. It was officially put into operation at the end of June 1996, with an annual output of 4500 tons. The production line uses fluff pulp as raw material to produce a series of household paper, hospital paper and industrial wiping paper. At present, the global output of dust-free paper is about 200000 tons, including 50% in Europe, 28% in the eastern United States and 14% in the Far East. The development, production and application of dry formed paper in China have just started. In the "Ninth Five Year Plan" of the paper industry and the "development priorities and main measures" planned in 2010, efforts to develop dry process series paper are particularly mentioned. In short, with the progress of modern dry forming technology, chemical fiber and fluff pulp technology, the enhancement of global environmental awareness and the improvement of material living standards, dry papermaking has become the mainstream of modern dry forming technology.
